Police are currently investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in Lakes Entrance early this morning which resulted in a triple fatality.

It is believed a car travelling south on Colquhoun Road, near Mitchelson Court, came off the road and struck a tree just before 2.15am.

The occupants are yet to be formally identified but all three, two males and one female, have died at the scene.

Police are currently on scene and the road will be closed for some time.
